No water coming out anywhere?

Step 1 — right now
Do this before you do anything else
This costs nothing and doesn’t need us. It’s the difference between a mop and an insurance claim.
- 1
Check with a neighbour
If they’re out too, it’s a mains outage — Sydney Water’s outage page will confirm it and there’s nothing a plumber can fix.
- 2
Check the tap at your water meter
Front boundary, beside the meter. If it’s been turned off — by a contractor, or by someone in the house — turn it anticlockwise. Open it slowly; a fast open sends a pressure surge through the house.
- 3
Check for a burst before you go looking further
Walk the property for wet ground or the sound of running water. A large break upstream can drop pressure to nothing.
Step 2 — what it probably is
The usual causes, in plain English
Mains supply interruption
A planned or emergency Sydney Water outage. Nothing to repair.
A closed or failed meter tap
They seize, and they get closed and forgotten after other work.
A failed pressure pump
On acreage properties around Dural and Kenthurst running tank water, no flow usually means the pump or pressure vessel, not the plumbing.
Step 3 — what it costs
So you know before you ring
Nothing, if it turns out not to be your problem.
No call-out fee and no charge to quote. If it turns out to be a Sydney Water outage we’ll tell you that on the phone and you won’t pay a cent. If it is your side of the meter, you get a fixed price before we start.

Common questions
Check whether neighbours have water, and check Sydney Water’s outage page. If the whole street is out it’s theirs to fix. If it’s only you, it’s on your side of the meter.
Opening it fast sends a pressure surge through the house that can cause water hammer or, on older pipework, burst a weakened joint. Ease it open over a few seconds.
