The same drain blocks every few months
Roots are getting back in through a joint or crack. Cutting them out is a holding pattern; relining ends it.
Camera shows cracks or a fractured pipe
Once a clay pipe cracks it will keep taking roots and debris. Relining restores a continuous, jointless surface.
The pipe runs under a driveway or slab
Exactly where excavation is most expensive and most disruptive. This is relining’s strongest case.
Wet patches or sinking ground in the yard
Water escaping from a broken line and washing out the bedding beneath it. It gets worse, never better.
Displaced or offset joints
Ground movement has pulled sections apart. A liner bridges the offset and seals it.
A quote to excavate that made your eyes water
Worth getting a relining quote before you agree to it. Often less, almost always less disruptive.
What relining actually is
A resin-saturated liner is pulled or inverted into the damaged pipe, then inflated against the pipe wall and cured. What you end up with is a new, seamless pipe formed inside the old one — structurally independent of the pipe it’s sitting in.
Because there are no joints, there is nothing for roots to find. That is the whole point: root intrusion happens at joints, and a lined pipe doesn’t have any.
Access is through existing points — an inspection opening, a boundary trap, or a small dig at one end. Your driveway, established garden, paving and slab stay untouched.
Relining vs excavation
Excavation is still the right answer sometimes — a fully collapsed pipe with no bore left to work with, or a line that needs re-grading because it was laid at the wrong fall. We’ll tell you when that’s the case.
For everything else — cracks, fractures, root intrusion, offset joints, corroded cast iron — relining is faster (most jobs are done in a day), cheaper once you account for reinstating what was dug up, and it doesn’t leave you with a garden to rebuild.
Junctions, bends and partial relines
We reinstate every junction after lining using a robotic cutter, so branch lines from your kitchen, laundry and bathroom all reconnect properly. Missing this step is a common failure with cheap relining work — you end up with a sealed junction and a new blockage.
Not every job needs the whole run lined. If the damage is a two-metre section, we line two metres. We’ll show you the camera footage and the measurements so you can see exactly what you’re paying for.
Why this area needs it more than most
The established suburbs we work in — Castle Hill, Cherrybrook, Beecroft, Pennant Hills, Wahroonga, Turramurra, St Ives — combine two things: vitrified clay sewer lines laid decades ago, and large mature trees. That’s the exact combination that produces chronic root intrusion.

Common questions
Pipe Relining questions, answered
Relining is priced by the metre, so the length of the run is the biggest factor, along with the pipe’s diameter, how many junctions need reinstating, and how much preparation and access the line needs. A short junction repair is a very different job from a full-length residential run. We quote from camera footage rather than from guesswork, which is why the number is accurate before you commit — and it is still almost always cheaper than excavating.
The liner itself is rated for 50 years and we warrant it for that period. Because the finished pipe has no joints, the root intrusion that destroyed the original line has nothing to exploit.
Usually, and the gap widens the harder the surface above is. Excavating under a concrete driveway means the excavation, the pipe, then reinstating the driveway. Relining avoids all of the reinstatement cost. Where a pipe runs under open lawn with easy access, excavation can occasionally be the cheaper option — we’ll tell you if that’s the case.
Most residential relines are done in a single day, including preparation and curing. You’ll typically be without drainage for a few hours rather than days, and we’ll tell you the window before we start.
Most can — clay, PVC, cast iron and concrete all reline well. The exception is a pipe that has completely collapsed, leaving no bore for the liner to form against, or a line that needs re-grading because the fall is wrong. Both need excavation, and the camera inspection tells us which situation you’re in.
In most cases we work through existing access points and dig nothing. Occasionally we need a single small excavation at one end to get the liner in. That’s a fraction of a metre, not a trench across the yard, and we’ll show you exactly where before we start.
