The older streets around Castle Street and Old Northern Road still run vitrified clay sewer lines laid decades ago, jointed every 600mm and surrounded by mature trees. That combination produces the root intrusion we’re called out for most often in this suburb.
The newer stock is a different job entirely — the apartment towers and townhouse developments that have gone up around Hills Showground and Castle Hill stations, and the infill off Showground Road. Modern PVC drainage, but frequently a hot water system that was sized for the display unit rather than the family that actually moved in. Undersized hot water is the single most common complaint we get from newer Castle Hill homes.
